"I know in my heart I have not done anything illegal"

In what he described as the most difficult speech he ever had to deliver, Sen. Fumo acknowledged minutes ago on the Senate floor that he would be indicted as part of a federal investigation this week and said he would temporarily step down as the ranking Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Committee.

His voice sometimes cracking, Fumo told Senate colleagues that he has cooperated in an "intensive federal investigation" and despite that was subject to "threats, intimidation and frequent leaks to media...intended to embarrass me."

Fumo said, that federal prosecutors will claim assets of the non-profit group that he controlled "Citizens Alliance for Better Neighborhoods" were misused for personal and professional gain. "I am not guilty of these accusations," he said, and vowed to fight the allegations "head on."

Fumo said Sen. Gerald Lavalle (D., Allegheny) would take on the role of acting minority chairman of the Appropriations Committee "until I am vindicated." Fumo, with his staff standing behind him, said he would continue to fight to improve conditions for the poor, the elderly and children as a "rank-and-file member of the Senate."

I hope he is wearing the horizontal stripped suit very soon.

And I will continue to fight on behalf of gambling and casino interests everywhere!

He needs to give up his millions too. He is a crooked politician who needs to spend a lot of time behind bars. In a real jail, not a country club.

It is about time someone has the courage to prosecute Vince Fumo. I am a DRPA employee and knows first hand of the all the illegal/manipulative tactic Prince Fuma had used here. His prosecution restore my faith in our justic system.

My recommendation to our anonymous DRPA employee is that he/she get a real job. Must be tough putting up with the corrupt pols...but the hours are great!
Now stop blogging on the computer I and other tollpayers bought and get back to "work".

All of the grammar misuses and spelling errors are indicative of the typical Fumo naysayer. Nice work, folks. Perhaps consider spending some time with the basics of English before wasting space with your unintelligible drivel.
Go get 'em Vince!

This man is an abomination. Put him away and at least try to clean up Philly politics. DRPA employee is right. Emperor Fumo should be sent to jail like the common criminal he is. 2:59 anonymous is an obvious Fumo shill.

Why don't we ask DRPA employee just how he/she came by the job?

Seems like Fumo made sure to stack this board with a monitor to fake support for him. He should resign immediately. If he is so innocent he would be reelected when he is acquitted after his trial.

Put him away for good and clean up politics!

This unspeakable S.O.B. is finally going to get what he deserves. Thanks to the Inquirer for keeping this story front and center for so long.

Sure Fumo did reinvest the CA monies in the community.

What people finally have to get in Philly is that you can't have your own personal fiefdom within city government funded by shaking down the businesses that want to work in Philly.

These are rare enough cases already.

How many businesses have we had to forego because they didn't want to "contribute" to Fumo's pet charity?

I know we almost lost Ikea from Fumo holding out for the last penny, and then Fumo sends out a newsletter that says his critics are "naive!"

Other cities made this sort of qui pro quo explicity illegal. Period.

Old Chicago, Old NYC is dead.
'
Time to kill Old Philly.

Time to stop the shake downs even by pols that served a constituency with most (but certainly not all) of it.

It's time for Philly pols to figure out how to raise money under campaign finance reforms and ethics laws that are at least as strict as the federal ones.

The voter deserves the right to know where this money is coming from, and where it is going.

PERIOD!!

I'm pretty sure that when I pay a bridge toll to DRPA that I don't expect it to go to ANY politician's private charity.

I'm pretty sure that when I pay my PECO bill that I'm not interested in paying a Fumo tax for Citizens' Alliance.

Let's grow our economic base by lowering tolls and bills, not by funding what appears to me to be a generous slush fund used to solidify votes for Fumo.

You Fumidiots are like Mumidiots.

The idea that you are not a law unto yourselves escapes you.

Prob'ly don't wanna try to call Jubelirer a "faggot."

Not too bright there Vince.

Still curious as to how self identified DRPA employee got their job...I don't suppose there is any chance they are still at their desk at 5:03...

The Emperor is so full of it. Let him take the stand and suffer the barbs of cross examination rather than issue such self-serving drivel on the floor of his little fifedom. On cross, he will have to answer to a long list of misdeeds. He is going to have to eat it all, point by point by point. He has met his match, and it is just a matter of time before he is being fitted for horizontal pinstripes.

The Idiot that thinks the Inquire is doing such a good job should know why the Inquirer persecutes Fumo. When the idea came up of putting the new Phillies stadium at Broad and Spring Garden the Inquirer stood to make millions of dollars from the sale of two of their dilapidated buildings to the city. Fumo squashed that idea because the stadium belongs exactly where it was built and putting it at Broad and Spring Garden was a bad idea! The Inquirer persecutes Fumo not to find the truth but because of the lost dollars and that is it! Just like this investigation it’s about politics!

Fumo is so corrupt and extorted money from Verizon and Peco. That he named his dogs Verizon and Peco as a joke. He also had Citizen Alliance drive down to his shore house to clean up after him when he threw parties.

Anonymous said...

You got that right. The man in famous for never picking up a bill, and waiting for everyone else to pay. If prosecutors say he used the Citizen Alliance to pay his bills, I am sure there is a ring of truth to that because that is how Fumo lives his live from what I have heard for years.

Seriously, why do we need the FBI to teach pols what the law is on nonprofits?

There are laws folks, that cover all of this. It's no guessing game.

The only people who've suddenly gone stupid -- oh, dear, oh, my, who knew -- are Fumo's allies.

If Fumikins knows in his heart he's done nothing illegal, that ranks up there with "I'm being prosecuted because I'm a successful black man."

Thanks for the laughs, Fumy. That's a good one, too, that belongs on the effed up Philly pol's hall of fame.
